Continuing in the rustic tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), mountainous Desoto State Park is nestled atop beautiful Lookout Mountain in scenic Northeast Alabama and accented by many rushing waterfalls and fragrant wildflowers that will simply take your breath away. Developed in the late 1930s, the hard-working and dedicated men of the CCC made many natural enhancements to the park that have withstood the test of time and will last for future generations. Come commune with Mother Nature as DeSoto State Park offers a family-friendly atmosphere that holds wonders for people of all ages!

Lodging & Camping

This 3,502-acre park provides lodging facilities including: Mountain Chalets, Log and Rustic Cabins, Motel Rooms, and an Improved Campground with 94 full-hookup tent and RV sites. For the more adventurous, there are also Primitive Camping sites for tents as well as 2 backpacking campsites with shelters. No matter what type of lodging you might prefer or have need of, we have it!

Activities

Whether a nature hobbyist, outdoor enthusiast, or sporting fanatic - DeSoto State Park has plenty to do to keep you pleasantly entertained. Kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, cycling, rappeling, bouldering, picniking, wildflower expeditions, and just plain ole' exploring nature - we literally have it all! We cater to individuals, families, and small to large groups of all kinds.

Golfing

DeSoto State Park has partnered with the City of Fort Payne to offer golf at the municipal course.

DeSoto Golf Course is a 9-hole regulation length golf course, the short layout will reward good shots and provide a fun golf outing for everyone.  The terrain is rolling with a lake that comes into play.  It features 3,007 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.  There's an additional set of men's tees when playing an eighteen hole round.

Hiking

Pack a picnic lunch and head out for a day exploring the ridges, waterfalls and river in beautiful DeSoto State Park.

Located on Lookout Mountain, DeSoto State Park has over 30 miles of hiking trails, including 11 + miles of mountain bike trails. Most interconnect with each other, while others take you into more remote areas. DSP’s trail system boasts interesting rock formations, small seasonal waterfalls, a variety of diverse plant communities, plentiful animal life, and beautiful views of the West Fork of Little River, which flows downstream into interconnecting Little River Canyon.

Terrain on the trails can vary from 'easy' to strenuous.

Mountain Biking

DeSoto State Park has over 30 miles of hiking trails, including up to 11+ miles of mountain biking trails. Terrain on all trails varies from easy to strenuous.

Helmets are required for children 16 & under.

Swimming

DeSoto's Olympic-size pool is fun for the whole family! Olympic-size pool complete with diving board and ADA-lift. Pool is located close to DeSoto State Park's picnic area, and within 1/2 mile of the Country Store & Information Center.

Swimming & Wading is allowed in the West Fork of Little River, which runs through DeSoto State Park. Accessed by the yellow trail in DeSoto State Park (DeSoto Scout Trail)-Water Level varies. No Lifeguard--swim at your own risk.
