Kathy Goeddel has been selected by AARP Oregon to receive the 2022 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award. Recipients across the nation were chosen for the award, named for AARP founder Ethel Percy Andrus, for enhancing the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improving the community, and inspiring others to volunteer.

Goeddel was recognized for her remarkable service as a Tax-Aide volunteer. The award was formally presented by Oregon State Director Bandana Shrestha and State Volunteer President Michael Schultz at the AARP Oregon Volunteer Celebration on December 6. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve,” said Shrestha. “Kathy is a most deserving volunteer who represents the true spirit of service. She stood out amongst an already impressive slate of nominations received from across the state.”

Goeddel's work with the AARP Tax-Aide program has impacted thousands of Oregonians for more than three decades, providing needed personal and financial assistance throughout the state. In her nomination, Bob Bruce, past state coordinator for Tax-Aide and current AARP Oregon Executive Council member, wrote: “Kathy's commitment to helping seniors and low-income persons receive free tax preparation service is second to none in the State of Oregon. She motivates by example, is an inspiration to the people with whom she volunteers, and a caring, trusted friend to the thousands of Oregon taxpayers who have sought her counsel and assistance.”
