Sterling State Park is the only state park on Lake Erie located just an hour from Detroit in the city of Monroe. The park is home to a variety of recreational opportunities.
Activities:
Biking: Bicycles are welcomed on park roads and paved trails marked for such use.
Boat Rental: Kayaks are available for rent at the campground office. Contact the park for more information at 734-289-2715.
Cross Country Ski
Fishing: The park is known for its walleye fishing. Shore fishing is possible at Sterling's three lagoons, three fishing piers and on the River Raisin.
Hiking: More than 7 miles of trails provide opportunities for hiking, biking and exploring. The nearly three-mile paved Marsh Trail circles one of the marsh lagoons in the park. A 2/3--mile hiking trail follows the Lake Erie shoreline. These trails include interpretive stations, an observation deck and a covered pavilion with spotting scopes.
Hunting: There is hunting allowed in designated areas of the park.
Paddling
Watchable Wildlife: The park is located along the major flyway for many migratory birds and a great place to see waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, song birds and wetland plants. The park is home to the endangered Eastern fox snake and the threatened American lotus.

Beach: There is a sandy one-mile beach located on Lake Erie.
Picnic Area: The picnic area is located in the day-use areas and includes vending machines, a modern toilet building, grills, picnic tables and a playscape that is shared with the campground. It is next to one mile of sandy beach on Lake Erie,
Playground: There is a playground accessible from the day-use area and campground.
