The Silver Oak Story
Located just 25 minutes south of Reno and 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. The course offers 5 sets of tees but the Par-71 layout is 6,564 yards from the tournament tees. Nestled against the high desert hillside, dramatic elevation changes on the opening nine holes produce unparalleled scenic views of the valley. At times wildlife is abundant as the course and nature embrace. The finishing nine offer a unique contrast to the front. Sierra Mountain views to the south, lakes, and longer holes wind you through the Silver Oak master planned community. Silver Oak Golf Course has consistently been voted Carson City's best since 2006.
The Silver Oak Executive Conference Center is worth a trip to the property. A collection of rare and museum quality memorabilia of automobiles and private memorabilia collections from the 1950-60's era decorate the unique and detailed interior. A labor of love and a long time passion of Garth Richards, the center is appropriate for up to 300 person events. There is the main Cadillac room and two adjoining breakout rooms. The 200 sq ft deck that overlooks the Sierra Nevadas or the long marble bar are perfect places to watch the golfers finishing the 18th hole or just enjoy the sunset. Silver Oak Executive Conference Center welcomes all types of parties, events and golf tournaments.
Several local contractors contributed to the construction of the golf course. The beautiful common landscaped areas found throughout the Silver Oak community were designed and constructed under the supervision of Sean Richards, Black Pine Construction. Continued dedication to quality course conditions and excellent customer service, the Silver Oak experience is truly an effort of family and friends.
In the fall of 1992 the idea for the Silver Oak Planned Unit Development was conceived when longtime Carson City resident and real estate developer Garth Richards secured an option to purchase the 650 acre Hartoonian Ranch located in northwest Carson City, along with an additional 100 plus acres directly adjacent to the Ranch and formed the Silver Oak Limited Partnership with partners Sean Richards, Todd Richards and Mark Turner.
Silver Oak Planned Unit Development, containing the eighteen-hole golf course, approximately twelve hundred homes, and many acres of commercial property, is Mr. Richard's crowning achievement. Silver Oak has become the flagship of land developments in Carson City. The majority of the existing residential lots and all future lots are being developed by Silver Oak Homes. Property sales are being handled by Silver Oak Properties, Inc. which is owned by Mark Turner.
Mr. Richards was a 1953 graduate of Carson City High School and in 1957 completed his formal education at Utah State University as a distinguished military graduate after a tenure in the U.S. Army where he was Assistant Post Commander of the Nuremburg, Germany Ordinance Depot. Wife Joanie (a former teacher) is best known for her decades of devotion to charities and more particularly, the Carson Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary, where her efforts have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the hospital.
