History Of The Museum Home :

Down through the years this property has been known as the Shannon-Lathrop Home. In 1829 Ezra Lathrop sold the lot where the house now stands to Martin Jamison for a sum total of $236, with the understanding that the old log cabin standing on the lot would be torn down. Jamison was a hatter, and part of the payment was to be made in hats. The present house was built on the lot in 1830. From the looks of the house, several additions must have been made at various times. When Jamison died in 1851, the Lathrops repurchased the praperty. The Lathop and Shannon families, related by marriage, occupied the home until the historical society purchased it in 1981.
