History of the Mall
Crabtree Valley Mall opened its doors in 1972 in the same location it is today on Glenwood Avenue, just off the I-440 Inner Beltline in Raleigh, NC.
The original store anchors of Crabtree Mall were Hudson Belk (now Belk), Sears, Miller & Rhoads, and Thalhimer's. Other shops, dining establishments and service providers included G.C. Murphy, Treasury Drug and Piccadilly Cafeteria. Originally built as a 251,000-square-foot shopping mall, today, Crabtree Valley Mall is home to more than 1,300,000 square feet of retail space.
Since opening more than 40 years ago, Crabtree Valley Mall has been a favorite of shoppers across Central and Eastern North Carolina. We welcome individuals and families from Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Durham, Chapel Hill and all surrounding areas in the Triangle, North Carolina, and beyond. As one of the largest malls in the Southeast, we've seen visitors from every corner of the country.
