The original Exeter Plantation was established in 1700. Tradition is evident from the time you pass through the gates of Exeter Plantation. In 1959, this beautiful tract of land was transformed into a 9-hole golf course and Berkeley Country Club was formed. Renowned golf course architect, George Cobb completed the design of the current 18-hole Championship layout in 1967. Later that same year the original plantation house was lost in a massive fire. A “Low Country” style clubhouse was constructed in the mid-1990's and currently hosts a pro-shop, member room, banquet hall, and the Exeter Grill and Lounge.
Berkeley Country Club has long been recognized for outstanding course conditions and its playability for all levels of golfers. In recent years, efforts have been made to update and advance the overall quality of the facility. The installation of Champion Bermuda greens in 2005 and 419 Bermuda fairways in 2008 have proven to be outstanding surface upgrades. Though big renovations such as these are complete, BCC remains focused on improving the overall golf experience.
