Fraud Bill Would Create Fund to Repay Victims

Posted on 02/01/25 by Erin Neff

Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar has sponsored a bill to create a Fraud Restitution Fund to help reimbursement victims of security law violations.

Senate Bill 76 creates the fund using money recovered from fraud cases. The fund is designed to help those who have been awarded restitution but have not received full payment.

Under the bill, victims must meet specific criteria to qualify for assistance, including having a final order of restitution from a court or regulatory agency.

Special provisions are included for vulnerable persons, such as the elderly, who may receive higher awards.
