Cyclovia Tucson - Get moving in a car free zone
Cyclovia is the annual thee mile-long block party that closes Tucson’s public streets twice a year so that residents can move around freely in a car free zone. AARP Arizona in Tucson is a sponsor of the event that brings out thousands of residents on bike, foot, scooters, etc.
Cyclovia is not a race but instead it hosts free activities as participants make their way through the route in local neighborhoods. Along the way you can find free giveaways, health screenings, helmets, bike repairs, live music, performances and so much more.
April's route was used to showcase the new bike routes around the university and midtown area.
AARP sent out postcards to members of the Tucson community encouraging them to get out and engage with the event. To help engage individuals any member that had received the postcard and then brought it to the AARP booth at Cyclovia was entered into a raffle for a new bike. This is the first time AARP took part in this type of engagemet for Cyclovia and what a turn out we got! We had a total of 500 people stop by our booth with alomost 200 of those being AARP members stopping by to enter the raffle.
The lucky winner of the bike was James Burr. James was so excited to win the bike and told us "I’ve wanted a bike for a while to be healthier and see more of my community. I’m so grateful to AARP!”
