AARP Pennsylvania Hosts 'Coffee and Conversation' With Delaware County Officials

Posted on 03/29/22

AARP Pennsylvania hosted the fifth installment of the successful virtual event series, Coffee and Conversation with Elected Officials, on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022. AARP was joined by Delaware County, Pennsylvania elected officials Elaine Schaefer and Dr. Monica Taylor to address concerns and answer questions regarding local topics.

Elaine Schaefer and Dr. Monica Taylor were joined by Southeast Pennsylvania volunteers Valda Branison and Margaret Livingston who aided in leading the conversation and by screening questions from the participants. Attendees received information about the extension of green spaces in Delaware County and the implementation of a new health system.

Elaine Schaefer’s background is in environmental advocacy. In addition to serving on City Council, Elaine currently serves as the Executive Director of the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area. Elaine is dedicated to improving citizens’ quality of life by advocating for access to the natural environment to escape the tensions of living in an urban or suburban environment. “By spending time outdoors, and by enjoying and engaging with our natural environment, it improves your quality of life, your health, and it makes every community better,” Elaine Schaefer explained.

In addition to green spaces and livable communities, recent news on healthcare was addressed. After decades without one, years of planning, and concerns amidst the COVID-19 virus outbreak, Delaware County has since begun the implementation of its own health department. On Tuesday, Dr. Monica Taylor addressed questions and provided up-to-date information regarding plans and priorities for the new health system. Delaware County officials aim to ensure that all citizens have access to the resources they need.

AARP Pennsylvania would like to thank Elaine Schaefer and Dr. Monica Taylor for attending the Coffee and Conversation with Elected Officials virtual event. This event is hosted monthly between the counties of the Greater Philadelphia Region, including Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia. Stay tuned to find out who the next guest speakers will be for the conversation hosted on Tuesday, April 19th at 2:00 pm. Please check your member emails for more information to come.
