Local Advocates
Volunteer advocates engage legislators, deliver testimony, and support important state and federal issues that impact the health and financial security of Mainers over 50. Our advocacy takes many forms: interacting with state legislators at our weekly Tuesdays at the State House (TASH), contacting AARP members through letter writing or phone calls, virtual small group meetings with local legislators through Kitchen Table Chats, writing letters to the editor, and more! Our Recess Regulars advocate with our Members of Congress during Congressional recesses.
NEW: Tuesdays at the State House training now scheduled for December 3rd, 2024. Would you like to join our legislative work in 2025 as a volunteer advocate? Join us from 9-2:30PM at the Viles Arboretum in Augusta to learn more about our work in 2025 and how you can get involved. Lunch will be provided. Registration is free, but required. Click here to register!
Community Engagement
Fun with purpose is a theme for our community work around Maine. Community engagement volunteers work together with local residents, community leaders, and organizations to host events (such as our free coffee and on-tap social events), support community projects and share information and resources -- a perfect way to make a difference in towns across Maine!
Speakers Bureau
We are always looking for energetic volunteers who can represent us around Maine. We’ll work with you and give you the resources you need to give simple presentations to groups and organizations on a variety of topics including Social Security and Medicare, livable communities, Fraud Watch and more.
