AARP Holds Monroeville Shred Event to Combat Fraud
A free community shredding event on July 20 at the Monroeville Convention Center, east of Pittsburgh, drew over 215 people interested in combatting fraud with AARP Pennsylvania.
Community members brought up to three bags or boxes of old financial documents, tax information and other personal documents to be securely shredded on-site. The event was a great success as over 10,000 pounds of paper was shredded, ensuring sensitive information didn’t end up in the hands of scammers or identity thieves.
AARP volunteers were on hand to welcome attendees, direct vehicular traffic, and educate attendees on the importance of fraud prevention. Every two seconds, someone’s identity is stolen. But you can take steps to protect yourself. For more information on how to keep safe from identity theft scams and other fraud schemes, visit www.aarp.org/FraudWatchNetwork.
