About the Event
Schedule:
Join the Advisory Council of Girls on The Run Montgomery County at FilmFest on February 27, 2025!
GOTR FilmFest is a night of independent short films celebrating girls and women. It will also provide the opportunity for the community to learn more about Girls on the Run and its impact.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run Montgomery County, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Film Line-Up (Recommended viewing ages 13+) :
Little Giant - After her older sister causes her to feel small and unimportant, a young girl finds validation by confronting a giant robot terrorizing her street. Director and producer, Sean Foy, is a featured speaker, and will be taking us behind-the-scenes after the film.
Sports: The Unequal Divide - In this documentary style short film, a local Montgomery County student filmmaker looks at the benefits of sports in the lives of youth and how family economics play a role in sports participation. This filmmaker is a featured in-person speaker and will be discussing their inspiration for this film.
Finding Traction - "Finding Traction" presents the inspirational story of ultra runner Nikki Kimball and her quest to become the fastest person in history to run America's oldest hiking trail, the 273-mile Long Trail. The documentary asks what drives her to attempt such an incredible feat and follows Nikki's journey from its beginning - training and racing in the Rocky mountains - to her actual record attempt through Vermont's beautiful but brutal Green Mountains. Throughout the film, Nikki's crew and support team provide an intimate portrayal of the courage, grit, and passion behind her record attempt, and interviews with the world's leading evolutionary biologists, including Bernd Heinrich, author of "Why We Run," shed light on the science and psychology behind Nikki's incredible race against time.
Girls on the Run alumni and volunteers round out the featured speakers with the above filmmakers of Little Giant and Sports: The Unequal Divide.
All ticket, raffle, and 50/50 ticket sale proceeds will support the Girls on the Run Scholarship Fund, which makes Girls on the Run accessible to all girls who wish to participate. Play a part in strengthening our community and celebrating diversity in storytelling
