Join artists Jay H. Stern and Tessa Greene O’Brien for a gallery talk as part of the As We Are exhibition series. This event invites participating artists to share insights into their own artistic practices and those of their peers.

About the Artists:
Jay Stern (born 1991) received a BFA in painting from the University of Cincinnati and an MFA in arts leadership from Seattle University. This year Stern will exhibit two solo presentations in Portland, Maine, and Los Angeles and show new work in a group exhibition at UTA Artist Space in Atlanta. In the winter of 2023–24, he attended the James Castle House Residency in Boise and was awarded a grant through the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Previous solo and group exhibitions include NOON Projects, Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Turley Gallery, Caldbeck Gallery, Sears Peyton Gallery, Specialist, Studio e, Able Baker Contemporary, Grant Wahlquist Gallery, and Koplin Del Rio. Stern’s work has been featured in publications such as Booooooom, Decor Maine, Art New England, Art Maze, and Aeqai. His work is currently on view in the public collection of the US Bank Center in Seattle. Stern lives and works in midcoast Maine.
A Maine native, Tessa Greene O’Brien (born 1982) is an artist and curator based in South Portland. She received a BS degree in fine art from Skidmore College and an MFA from the Maine College of Art and Design. O’Brien has shown throughout the United States, including recent exhibitions at Platform Project Space, Brooklyn; Vardan Gallery, Los Angeles; Dowling Walsh Gallery, Rockland; Buoy Gallery, Kittery; Sears Peyton Gallery, New York City; Studio E Gallery, Seattle; and the GCenter for Maine Contemporary Art. She was a 2022–23 Residential Fellow at the Lunder Institute for American Art at Colby College; her other residencies include Surf Point, Tides Institute, Monson Arts, Haystack, Hewnoaks, Vermont Studio Center, Joseph A Fiore Art Center, and Stephen Pace House. Grants and awards include the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, the Ellis Beauregard Foundation, the Maine Arts Commission, the Joseph. A. Fiore Painting Prize, the St. Botolph Emerging Artist Award, and the Kindling Fund at SPACE gallery.
